How does Centek validate its simulation results against actual downhole performance?

Centek compares predicted performance with data recorded during the actual casing, liner or tubing run.

Centek’s proprietary simulation software combines physical product test data with well-specific information to model factors including well trajectory, standoff, side loads, running forces, torque and drag, hookload and centralizer placement. This helps engineers assess whether the string can safely reach TD while providing the standoff required for effective cement placement.

Field results provide an important way of validating these predictions.

  • In a 12,654 ft cemented monobore operation offshore Sabah, the actual hookloads closely matched the pre-job simulation data.
  • In a Norwegian North Sea slot-recovery operation, the recorded running forces also matched the torque-and-drag model predictions.

These comparisons help validate the friction factors, product data and spacing assumptions used in the model. They also demonstrate that simulation can do more than support a centralizer recommendation: it can provide an evidence-based foundation for selecting the right product, quantity and placement before the string is run.

Simulation results depend on the quality of the well data and assumptions supplied, so each assessment should be based on the latest available survey and application information.

S2 centralizers support packerless cemented monobore completions in highly deviated wells

Centek’s 0312-0812S centralizers and 031200SO stop collars supported a challenging packerless cemented monobore completion in offshore Sabah, Malaysia. In two highly deviated sidetrack wells, the centralizer program was optimized to help 3-1/2" tubing pass through milled windows, reach total depth and achieve the standoff required for effective cement placement. Combining S2 centralizer performance with Centek’s in-house simulation helped manage drag, running forces and cementing risks, with post-job results confirming successful cement placement, no tubing fill and strong zonal isolation.

UROS-CT Proves to Be Best Solution for Tight Tolerances in the North Sea

In a North Sea slot recovery and redrill project, an operator faced severe tolerance constraints when running a full string of 9⅞" casing through existing and new casings with varying drifts and inclinations up to 72°. Centek’s UROS-CT Close Tolerance Centralizer, deployed across 140 joints along with Protech bonded stop collars, was successfully run to TD with no downhole issues. Running forces aligned with model predictions and the cementing job achieved full annular isolation in challenging salt diapir formations. The solution validated the UROS-CT’s performance under very tight tolerances and earned strong praise from the customer.
