Centek applies an Anti-Corrosive Extreme Edge Low Bake Industrial Polyester Powder Coating to its centralizers to provide durable protection during storage, international freight, handling, installation and downhole use.

Centralizers may remain in storage for an unknown period before installation and can encounter demanding environmental conditions while being transported around the world. These may include salt-laden air, moisture, high humidity, temperature changes and repeated handling. Centek’s coating system is designed to help protect the product throughout this journey, from the factory to the wellbore.

Effective coating performance begins with careful surface preparation. During Centek’s heat-treatment process, products are thoroughly cleaned to remove contaminants that could compromise adhesion. This helps the coating bond closely and consistently to the steel surface, reducing the risk of lifting, flaking or peeling.

The specialist powder coating incorporates an anti-corrosive primer and extreme-edge technology. Edges and corners are often the most vulnerable areas because conventional coatings can become thinner as they cure. The extreme-edge formulation is designed to provide more consistent coverage around the centralizer’s edges, bows and complex profiles, helping to reduce potential weak points in the corrosion barrier.

Its low-bake industrial polyester formulation enables a controlled curing process at a lower temperature, while producing a robust, hard-wearing finish. This helps the coating withstand the mechanical demands associated with transportation, handling, casing installation and downhole deployment.

Centek has tested the coating using the parameters and methodology of BS EN 60068-2-52:2018, Test Kb, Method 4.

This combination of controlled surface preparation, enhanced edge coverage, anti-corrosive priming technology and environmental testing helps ensure Centek centralizers remain protected against external corrosion until they are required at the wellsite.
