Centek S2 Centralizers Halve the Time to Get to Bottom

Centek /6th April 2017/ S2

Faced with a long 16,695 ft well in the Wolfcamp shale (Reeves County, Texas), where conventional casing runs typically take 30–35 hours, the operator sought a faster, more reliable solution. By using 187 of Centek S2 bow-spring centralizers and 374 matching stop collars across 420 joints, the entire casing run was completed in just 16.5 hours — cutting run time by more than half. The S2’s smooth, semi-rigid single-piece design minimized drag and running resistance even when fitted rig-floor, enabling rapid, safe descent in the 8⅝” open hole.

The casing reached bottom in just 16.5 hours — more than 50% faster than normal — thanks to low-drag S2 centralizers, significantly reducing rig time.

THE CHALLENGE

To improve running casing time in this 16,695ft well in the lower Wolfscamp shale, Reeves Country, Texas. This normally takes around 30-35 hours.

THE SOLUTION

187 x Centek S2 centralizers with 374 Centek stop collars were used on a string of 420 joints.

THE RESULT

The whole job ran in only 16.5 hours, even with the centralizers and stop collars being fitted on the rig floor. In this 8.1/2”
open hole, that’s 2.36 minutes per joint, fitted.
